I recently turned 16 (happy birthday to me 🥳). This meant I needed to get my governmental ID made since I live in Egypt. unfortunately, It’s not a pleasant process, in fact it’s quite annoying 🙄. I have to be at a government facility, and it won’t get made until I’m done waiting for what feels like forever, and even then I still have to deal with all the employees there who’ll send me from counter to counter aimlessly....

We all know how teamwork is so amazing, right? Well, what if we extend this idea further from just your classmates in the room or your co-workers on the team to include the whole internet? This might not be possible in your job, because you might work in a large company, or produce an asset that is not so easily digitised, but what this does apply to is software. Let’s first take a step back and identify what is so great about teamwork in the first place....

I have a history with failed projects. My “websites” folder is more like a graveyard than a portfolio, it’s filled with things I was once enthusiastic about but decided to abandon. One day, I decided that this won’t happen again, and it almost didn’t! But nowI’m face to face with yet another abandoned project. This time it’s called tic-tac-done. What was tic tac done? Over the last month, I’ve been working on an app that I hoped would fix my annoyances with others, as well as bring something new to the table....

We consume a lot of digital media everyday. Written posts, videos, podcasts and the such. We mostly access these through platforms like youtube for video, spotify for podcasts and the specific website for blog posts. Add to that email newsletters, reddit threads, and now stepping back and looking at it: keeping up to date with everything you want to is unreasonably difficult! The status quo is problematic ignoring the problems that an algorithm deciding what you see causes, and the potential distractions you might suffer from trying to find insightful info on social media,leaves us with one issue: fragmentation....

The amount of things we have to remember now is more than we ever have! Jobs have shifted from being about expert craftsmanship and skill of hand to knowledge and analysis based. Even in jobs like cooking which have been around for a long time, you’re expected to know a lot more these days. Not to mention there are things that we always had to memorize like the Quran, and tiny things like todoes and meeting dates....

It’s often hard for us to do the things we want to do, even if we like them. Instead we find ourselves scrolling Facebook, and at the end of the day we might feel disappointed that we didn’t get to read the new books we bought, but somehow we spent 4 hours on Tiktok. This is friction in action. What is friction I like to define friction as “the amount of stuff between me wanting to do something, and me actually doing it”....
